Designing a Connected, Integrated, and Efficient Warehouse in Mexico

published on 08/11/2020

Our team at Simon Hegele Healthcare Solutions in Mexico partnered with Siemens Healthineers to make upgrades to its warehouse to maximize quality and efficiency, while improving visibility and transparency of the inventory. Leveraging our healthcare and logistics expertise, we provided support with the warehouse strategy that incorporated a highly efficient layout and implemented technology throughout to provide 100% inventory visibility. The project accomplished:

  • Creating optimal receiving and storage accommodations for new high-end, sensitive equipment, including optimizing rack storage
  • Resurfacing and leveling the floors
  • Incorporating a new forklift charging area
  • Reconfiguring space for demos
  • Installing new signage to assist in logistics and workflows
  • Improving the surroundings for the comfort of the staff

“Managing the domestic supply chain in Mexico is challenging because of unforeseeable delays,” said James Nestel, CEO of Americas and Asia Pacific for Simon Hegele Healthcare Solutions. “Whether we are working through customs clearance or working around hospital construction delays, delivery and installation schedules changes frequently. There is no shortage of setbacks which means the warehouse has to accommodate a variety of scenarios including short-term and long-term storage to offer highest level of flexibility for our customer.”

Post renovation, the new demo area better serves shipping and receiving, areas that often face a shortage of space which can lead to inaccuracies that cascade throughout the warehouse, creating a host of other inefficiencies. “Cleanliness is key in our business and attention to details, such as level floors, mitigate damage to products,” added Gustavo Galetto, National Manager of Simon Hegele Healthcare Solutions (MEXICO).

Customers count on 100% visibility of inventory and look for logistics partners to flag issues early, if an overseas shipment is not complete or if there are damages – visibility and transparency are critical. “We have made a significant investment in modern warehouse management software to provide the visibility our customers rely on,” added Nestel. “And we are evaluating a best-in-class Transportation Management Software (TMS) to optimize transportation management from the warehouse to the final customer, providing a seamless solution and delivering excellence every step of the way.”
