Can you share a little about your background in the military?
I have spent over 20 years in the military with various positions. I started as an artillery man, and then became a generator mechanic and was an intelligence analyst before I left the military in 2014.
What drew you to apply at Simon Hegele Healthcare Solutions?
After the military, I worked at FedEx for three years. I learned about Simon Hegele at a Veterans event at the Veterans of Foreign War where an employee of Simon Hegele was talking about his recent travel experience in Colorado. That immediately caught my attention so I asked him what he does for work. I like to travel, and this job includes being on the road a lot. Veterans are used to traveling and I would get cabin fever if I stayed in one place for too long. This position sounded like it would give me the opportunity to travel which is what I missed when coming out of the military. I can also use my technical skills in this position which I like a lot.
What can you tell us about your current position with Simon Hegele?
I am currently a team lead for installers at Simon Hegele and help with our other company training as well. We install large medical equipment in hospitals like MRI machines. As mentioned, I enjoy traveling and making connections with other people which I get to do in my position now. It’s a good way to start your career in the civilian sector.
How does your military experience support you in your current position?
My technical background is definitely helpful. In the military we learn to follow strict guidelines which we have to do in our job as an installer as well. The experience from the military translates well in my role. Most of what we do is pretty regimented, and it follows strict guidelines which is similar to what we have to do in the military.
Why might a Veteran consider Simon Hegele Healthcare Solutions a good fit?
We’re a very close-knit family of installers. We’re on the road and this is basically the second family. The comradery that happens with us is just like the military. It fits the same need. A lot of people who miss the military, like me, miss the comradery. We get the comradery here with all the installers. We are always there for each other. Whether someone has a technical question or just needs to talk to someone while on the road, we are there for each other. We share the same experience as being away from home or being on a job site and it is like an extended family. We share the same values as in the military and people get the same fulfillment as in the military. Plus, it feels good to do something for somebody – not directly by operating on a patient but indirectly by helping to install the equipment that might save someone’s live.
