Used medical equipment is in demand all over the world to support a variety of market needs.  Delivering used equipment clean and ready to use increases the system resale value and meets sanitary requirements. We offer specialized refurbishment services to restore used medical devices to nearly new condition — making expensive and mission-critical equipment, like MRI machines and CT scanners, available for resale to a wide range of healthcare customers.

“Simon Hegele has offered this unique service for 17 years, and our expert refurbishment team is committed to high quality standards,” said Brian Kovacs, Warehouse Manager. “We clean and disinfect the equipment, inventory everything and make sure all is in order, then paint and repackage them. The finished products look and operate like new devices. We ship them out to be used in other healthcare facilities, including the US as well as in healthcare facilities across the US and around the world.”

How Our Refurbishment Process Works

The used equipment can be deinstalled by the Simon Hegele teams, by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) or a third party supplier. Once we receive the used medical equipment, our team spends approximately two weeks completing the meticulous refurbishment process:

  • Disassembly & Assessment: The process includes carefully taking apart the machine, examining all of the components, recording and cross-referencing serial numbers, and checking for missing parts and damages.

  • Disinfection & Cleaning: The systems are used to scan patients and can be exposed to a number of biohazards and needs to be properly cleaned. Our teamtreats the equipment with a disinfecting solution, and then cleans it with specialty products and a professional surface treatment.

  • Painting: Through years of use, the covers on a system can become scratched from a variety of activities such as patients moving on and off the system, tables moving in and out of gantries, and systems being disinfected between each patient. Chips and scratches on the system need to be filled and properly finished and the paint needs to be properly color matched.  It is important to use the correct paint to stand up to frequent cleaning as well as one that is safe for patient contact and that will not interfere with operation of the system.  We are specialized in painting parts and use our specialty in-house paint booth to paint and repair broken or damaged covers.

  • Reassembly & Packaging: Packaging can include protecting covers from being scratched or damaged during transit delivery or rigging.  Packaging can also include properly crating a system for exportation and the rigors of international transit.

“When I clean and refurbish a system, I focus on detailing every nook and cranny,” said Patricia Jackson, Refurbishment Team Lead “I think about the patients who will be using this equipment — imagining one of my family members in it. We have a 100% satisfaction rate. We never receive any complaints, and I think that reflects the care and expertise we bring to each project.”
