Veterans Day, observed annually on November 11, is dedicated to paying tribute and honoring military veterans of the United States Armed Forces. At Simon Hegele Healthcare Solutions, we are proud to recruit and work with Veterans, like Robert Miller, Team Leader for Installers, who joined our team in 2007.
Rob brings a number of skills to our team, including many that were honed during his service, including a deep appreciation of the value of training and procedures and the importance of teamwork and collaboration.

Can you share a little about your background in the military?
I enlisted in the Army in Fort Jackson, SC in June 1984 and had different positions in different locations – some include Fort Polk, LA. After that, I spent 3 years in Germany and joined the National Guard in Florida where I worked for 15 years. In total, I spent 21 years in the Army.
My role in the army was Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic.
What was your journey like after you left the military?
In 2001, I started to work for another company similar to Simon Hegele Healthcare Solutions while still in the National Guard. I was an installer and became team leader within a year. I learned about Simon Hegele while in that role and became interested in learning more about the company.
What attracted you about the position at Simon Hegele Healthcare Solutions?
What excited me the most about the company and position was that they worked internationally. I wanted to travel for work and work abroad in other countries and Simon Hegele offered me the opportunity to do both.
What can you tell us about your positions at Simon Hegele Healthcare Solutions?
My current position is Team Leader for Installers. We install large medical equipment in hospitals like MRI machines or X-Rays. I currently work with Modality AT (Advanced Therapies). I previously also worked on installing XP – Xray imaging equipment.
I started to work for Simon Hegele Healthcare Solutions in July 2007 out of the Chicago area. A few years later, I was transferred to Australia and spent 5 years in Australia as an installer (until April 2017). I really enjoyed my time there and would love to go back. The last few years I mostly worked in Midwest, and in the region from North Dakota to El Paso Texas.
My technical background from the military translates well to the work I do now at Simon Hegele.
Why might a Veteran consider Simon Hegele Healthcare Solutions a good fit?
I believe Veterans would be a good fit to work at Simon Hegele Healthcare Solutions because they are flexible, used to precise work and know how to follow guidelines.
Veterans often bring willingness to travel which you need when working for Simon Hegele Healthcare Solutions. They are used to changing directions if needed and are flexible enough to adjust to the job requirements.
Veterans are used to reading manuals and following step-by-step instructions until the job is completed which can be applied to the installer job as well.
I consider Simon Hegele a good first start for people out of military. The hours can be long at times, but Simon Hegele pays well, and the benefits are good. I recommend contributing into the 401k plan right away to save for the future!
I might be biased since I have been with the company for over 17 years, but I really like it. The transition into the work force was easier for me than the transition into the military.
What piece of advice you would give to a Veteran who is trying to make the transition from the military to the corporate world?
In my opinion it is not too different from the military other than that it is in the civilian world. The longer you are there, the higher you can climb up the career ladder.
You are not in a combat situation anymore but can still use the knowledge you gained in the military.
